Mint Strawberry Lemon Water

Fruit infused water is the new "it thing." Water is a must. Oh you know, because it is the life force for earth & all living beings. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, (CDC) water keeps your temperature normal, lubricates & cushions your joints, protects your spinal cord & other sensitive tissues, & gets rid of waste through urination, perspiration, & bowel movements. On top of that, water is especially satisfying in the heat.

But why not mix it up a bit? I've got a really nice fruit infused water recipe for you. Mind you, this isn't some sugary flavored water. This is simply fruit infused. The fruits give the water a nice kick of taste without making you forget it's water. Try this out if you want to mix it up during the summer.

Ingredients:
- water
- water jug
- strawberries
- lemons
- mint

1. Get water - I used tap water because the fruit makes it taste better anyway. Plus, I'd feel pretty guilty opening up 5 bottles of water for this. Just add the water to your water jug or container. Fill it up most of the way.

2. Cut up fruits - Slice two lemons into thin pieces. Cut several strawberries. I created two sizes: larger chunks and smaller pieces. You can add as much lemon or strawberries as you want. This isn't rocket science, so just add what you enjoy! Toss them into your water container.

3. Add mint -  I grow my own mint and I'd been dying to use it. Get mint from the store or use your own; it doesn't really matter, but I personally prefer homegrown. I tossed 5-6 mint leaves into the jug. I crushed them up a bit because I felt it released more flavor that way.

4. Let it sit - Let the water sit for at least two hours. The longer you let the fruits infuse, the better it will taste. I promise. Ideally, you should leave it overnight.

You can alter the amount of fruit or mint in any way. If you want it to be more strawberry-y, add a few more strawberries. Prefer it to be lemony? Use more lemons. Don't like mint? Don't add any. Love mint? Add more.

Mint Strawberry Lemon Water is the perfect way to cool down on an unbearably hooo0ot day. Enjoy and stay cool!

Will you make this? What's your favorite fruit infused water combination? :]

  5. Yum! I absolutely love infused water during the warmer seasons. I have a lemon tree in my backyard that I use for infusing water but since it's winter now it's not growing anything :(

  9. Oh Carmen. Yet another awesome post.
I was so pleased when I discovered the healthy snacking post (Veg with Balsamic Vinegar, yum!!) and now this. I basically know that water is super super good for us, and I do drink it, but I hate the taste. especially London tap water. This post is a godsend. Thanks

  13. Great idea. I think I strawberry, kiwi, banana, berry (raspberry, blackberry, blueberry), peach and mint would be what I would go for. We used to make sangria like that. I think the trick to it was waiting for the fruit to ferment. All of the flavor will transfer to the water, and it makes an amazing drink. http://askmelissaanything.blogspot.com/
