Dark vs. Light || A poem

Look, I don't want to see you
in any kind of vision.
You're haunting, taunting my mind
treating it like a prison.
Well, let me tell you something
you probably ought to know.
You executed me once,
Truth is you softened the blow.
I dream about about it often:
I'm flying high in the air,
escaping from what kills me,
but you greet me with despair.
Seems it's inevitable
that you'd stir up a terror.
Karma will get you, I know.
Call it trial & error.
I admit there's no denying
You may have won the first fight
That was then, this is now &
darkness always falls to light.
I am illuminated
by the ghost of the prior.
Consider me as a sun
Burning noble ball of fire.
I shall triumph past darkness,
shining like the brightest star.
My journey doesn't stop here
I'll continue to go far.
Bid adieu to all evil,
the wicked & the corrupt.
This is a revolution;
The intent is to disrupt
you from your malignant plot.
One sip from the holy grail
& it acknowledges that
the good will always prevail.

Sometimes your past will chase you, but that's only if you let it. The present is all you've got aside from the memories & perhaps some regrets. Live not in what haunts you but in the light of the day. You can choose to escape, to let it all go. Move forward. Move on. Let all the bad, the darkness, the toxicity out of your life.

What does this poem mean to you? Do you have any past darkness that sometimes gets you down? How do you deal with it? :]

  2. I have plenty of past darkness. I try to forget about it if I'm not in the mood to really sit down and analyse it.

  6. Your poem definitely touched a chord with me. I have lots of darkness in the first part of my life, but I am able to keep it at bay now. My life now is filled with so much hope and light and for that I feel very blessed.

  7. This would read so well at a Poetry Slam. Have you ever been to one of those?

Oh I definitely have my past darkness and it gets me down a lot. Poetry and Art and Music are definitely good ways to release my sadness when I'm down. As for staying happy, I just have to focus on the good things in life and improving myself for the better.

  8. Damn girl this is an amazing poem! Love it!! Things were running through my head when I was reading it, wondering if it's about a past lover, or a past friend, or just a past straight out enemy... but I love the mystery <3 Anyways thanks for the sweet comment on my blog, always returning the support

  23. Carmen,
This is great I love the line about the darkness always coming to light.
You know, I recently wrote a bunch of poems that I thought might be too dark or to personal to share, but you've inspired me to reconsider.

  24. Great poem~ Darkness and light are of the same coin. One needs the other to survive. Always. That's what I found out in life and in my experiences.
