Summer Tropics // OOTD

Goodness gracious me. It's been so hot here in North San Diego County. Summer has been pretty mild up until now. Apparently it's in full swing & unapologetically late. I got back from Europe a couple weeks ago; I spotted this magnificent loose tropical dress at a boutique in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It was a rainy day & I was bundled up. I kind of wish it was like that here! At least I'll get some good use out of it in California.

I found a beautiful location overlooking the lovely SoCal terrain, but it was gloriously windy for this outfit photo shoot. I gave up trying to maintain my mane because the wind tousled it mercilessly. What are you going to do? Mother Nature is a force to be reckoned with. I just let the earth do her thang.

I recently tested out Rocksbox*, a jewelry subscription service. They send you three pieces of jewelry at a time for you to try out. You can return it whenever you feel like -- after a few days or after a couple weeks or whatever you want. The idea sounded appealing & I did have a trial subscription for three months, but overall it wasn't really for me.

A stylist chooses the jewelry for you, so many of the pieces weren't really my taste. But it was interesting to try out, even only temporarily. Here I'm sporting the Perry Street Gabriella Bracelet which retails at $50. If you are interested in Rocksbox, use the code "carmenvarnerxoxo" to get a free month trial.

I'm wearing a lip liner from Italia Deluxe in the shade called Mango. It's a delightfully bold orange. After lusting for a true orange lip for ages, I am so happy to have found this one. I just love it! The bolder the lip color, the better. I know it's still summer, but I've been rocking the dark & moody berry red all season as well. Hope you're having a wonderful day!

Have you heard of or tried Rocksbox? What do you think? How do you like this summer tropics look? What's your go-to summer lip color? :]

  2. Oh, that's interesting, because I have heard some wonderful things about Rocksbox and you're perhaps the first who's given a mixed to negative opinion of it. I thought Rocksbox catered the pieces they send a person according to their preference (which is based on an online form if I'm not mistaken?) I'd love to try it out, but living outside of the States prohibits me from doing so, sigh.

Anyway, I love your shoes! Happy September, Carmen!

    1. Yeah it wasn't for me. I had a wish list going but didn't receive those items. And for the price of the pieces, some are subpar. I didn't even wear a couple for fear that the pieces or beads would come loose & I'd be charged $50 for something! Haha. The appeal was there but it's just not for me :-)

  3. I love the bold, orange lip color! It pairs so well with your dress too! :)

I've been subscribing to Rocksbox for the past three years (time flies!). Some boxes are hit-or-miss, and it can take some time for their stylists to 'learn' your style preferences... I do however like that they let you request specific pieces for your 'wishlist' - I'm glad they added that feature!

  7. I love your lip color! I really wish I could make oranges and corals work on me, but I have to accept that they just don't. I've been really into hot pink lips lately, and I am PUMPED to start rocking berry reds for fall...whenever it decides to roll into Boston!

It's a shame you didn't like the rocksbox - I thought it sounded like a great idea, but it isn't available here. I guess if you aren't getting pieces you like then it's not really worth it!

  32. Yeah I can even see based on this bracelet this really isn't your sense of style. I tried it out for a few months also, and I had a much better experience. I got something from my wishlist each month and my stylist actually selected my other pieces to go along with that theme. She did a pretty solid job, though the whole breaking something/losing something is a hugely scary factor. Maybe you just had an inattentive stylist or something? Kind of bizarre, haha.

Ah well, hope your Labor Day weekend is going well!
