Just a Bit Blue // OOTD

The day began like any other. I woke up, opening my eyes only to see an out of focus, hazy fog. I rubbed my eyes, blinked twice, & sat up, kicking the sheet off of me. The time on my cracked phone read 8:59 a.m. I had the pleasure of sleeping in, a delight I seldom get to enjoy. Long gone are the days of having summers off.

I remember my college days when I could spend my summer however I wanted, save for working a few hours at the bakery every other day. My roommate & I crammed too many people into our tiny apartment. We had Shih Tzu named Pebbles for two years even though dogs weren't allowed at the complex. We scarfed down leftover bagels & pastries we brought back from the bakery without gaining a pound.

We played whatever music was popular from 2008 to 2012. We stayed up until 2 a.m. & slept in until 1 p.m. We frequented bars where strangers asked us to dance & we would politely decline, citing that we were only there to hang out girlfriends. We were single, working toward getting a degree. The world was so open. We had everything within our grasp.

Today I spent time reminiscing. My roommate is getting married. I've been with my boyfriend for almost 3 & 1/2 years. I'm expanding my social media career, learning more & more with every moment of every day. It's not the same as having summers off from school. It's not better. It's not worse. It's just different.

Every afternoon after a full-day of social media work, I kick off my shoes, toss my purse on the ground, & immediately change into my most comfortable clothes available. I turn on the Xbox & put on Netflix, then begin the second part of my day: blogging. I always get the sinking feeling that I'm missing something. Homework perhaps?

Though those days are years gone, I can't help but feel their presence still  like a ghost of the past, haunting yet nostalgic. The past is the past, nothing but a chronicle of memories made, mishaps met, & moments missing. I won't have those late nights working on epidemiology homework with my roomie, but I have something different. Now I have a loving boyfriend, apartments to hunt, work to improve on, a blog to grow. And that's exciting.

  3. I love that you view this not as something that necessarily needs to be compared to the past. "It's not better. It's not worse. It's just different." How beautifully succinct, Carmen.

My life has definitely drastically changed from just a few years ago, where I was in high school, and I do have days where I wallow in self-pity and wonder how life has gotten so much worse when it was all sunshine and rainbows just a few years ago. And then I realize that it's not worse -- it's just different, and it's also different in a way that age is different. Different in a way that people change and evolve and learn to adapt to different situations.

I hope you enjoy the summer nonetheless, Carmen. Also, your anklet is absolutely lovely. x

  5. Yes, life changes A LOT after school. We grow up, we become more mature, we want different things which is not bad, it's like you said: different. Love your outfit, the blue colour is amazing!

  13. I don't think any of us are prepared for life after school, I know I wasn't. That said, I much prefer working life than studying, I wasn't much into the endless, crazy assignments.

  14. Love this casual outfit!
When I think about my time in college, I always think about how much I could I could have been actually doing and joe much money I could have saved!! I thought I was tired then and could barely function on 6 hours of sleep ! Now that I have 4 kids and 1 on the way, I realize uou just have to push though and do what needs to be done regardless of the amount you sleep you got! Love your blog!

  15. I often regret playing the fool all the time during high school, and I feel immensely blessed that being that foolish didn't really hurt me (all that much). Thankfully :) that's why I keep telling my children to stop wanting to grow up all that quickly. Being an adult is grossly overrated GRIN

I run a weekly Link-Up every Friday called Project Sister Act which aims to debunk the myth that style is defined by age or shape or type. To remind us that fashion is about all dressing-up, and having fun while doing that :) I do hope you'll come join in xoxo

  17. That's how life works. It can be hard to not compare yourself or your life to the past or other experiences, but you can't let that type of thing hold you back. Happy summer. :]

  18. Same. Those long sleep in days are over. :]

  19. It can certainly be a culture shock once you make the switch. I do miss all the learning though. :]

  20. Yeah, I'm sure I could've been more productive as well. But that's something you learn over time. :]
