I thought of success
& what the word means.
I'm not where I thought I'd be
when I was in my teens.
There were questions
rushing through my mind.
The answers to which
I'll eventually find.
Thoughts on what to do,
& where to go,
The answers to which
it's hard to know.
How to get there
& when that'll be.
The answers to which
the future will see.
Ramblings of where I've been
& what that meant,
what I've been doing,
& was it time well spent?
In the moment as it happens
it's hard understand.
It's best to just live my life
& to live it unplanned.

Essentially, this is speaking about feeling lost in life & trying to find your way. There are those moments when you question everything you're doing. Is it enough? Should I have done something else? What are other people my age doing? The only way you can get the answers to those questions is to continue on. Eventually you will understand why each thing panned out the way it did. What does this poem mean to you? Do you see yourself in it at all?

excellent poem Carmen!
ReplyDeleteI do like this poem...sometimes we need to stop to examine ourselves and just live our life. As it happens, recently I've read all of my teen diaries- that was interesting but no need to dwell on them for too long.

Perfectly said. No need to dwell. You can't go backwards, but you can utilize what you've learned & apply it to the future. :]
DeleteGorgeous poem and I can completely relate!

Hello Carmen! Thanks for sharing such a beautiful poem. I can relate to the poem very much. The feeling of not knowing where I am or heading is something that I experienced most of my life until the day I chose to let go of the worries and fears of not knowing and instead chose to have faith and believe that I was taken care of by a higher power. I now have a picture in my head of what I want and where I want to be and I make sure I don't let it fade away. I then allow life to take me there. I don't fear my feelings, I don't worry about my thoughts, I just let them be and eventually they fade away. I know in my heart that life is taking care of me and opening the doors to experiences and opportunities that will get me to where my heart wants to be. Blessings to you always and thanks for visiting my blog. I followed you on FB and IG. I will appreciate if you can follow me back, of course, only if you want:-) XOXO, Jeannette

Love this poem, Carmen! It's so true that many of our moments are filled with uncertainty and surprises-- such is the human experience! I think you captured it beautifully. As a planner and anxious person, I tend to like control :)

"Such is life," as my mum would say. Then you can relate indeed. I guess we just need to plan less & do more. :]

DeleteWow. I loved your poem and I can relate. So much. I'm currently 19 and feel like I have no idea where I'm going and that I've wasted almost 2 decades on this earth. I was actually just talking about this the other day with my roommate. It's rather unsettling, but I suppose everyone goes through this phase once in their lives. What can we do but accept reality? Your words are really beautifully put, though~

It's totally normal. You're exciting your teens & feel grown up yet there's still so much to learn. You will to so well. :]
DeleteI love this poem, Carmen. It conveys a space I've been in at different points of my life, but a place I don't like to linger in too long. Happy Wednesday :)

Lingering is terrible!! Wishing you a wonderful Wednesday as well. :]
DeleteI love this poem, how powerful. All I can say to you is that at the young age of 24, you seem to have accomplished a heck of alot, and have no regrets - you are on the right path girl!
