Kids are magical creatures. They are tiny humans filled with joy, a zest for knowledge & the need for exploration. Adults can learn a lot from them. We are bogged down by stress, problems, & to do lists. Perhaps we should take a moment to see the world from a child's eyes. What can we gain from their way of life? Here are 6 things adults can learn from kids.
Ask questions - "What is that called? Why are you doing that? Can I help?" Sometimes it feels like you can't answer all the questions that are perpetually blasting at you like a machine gun, but they just want to understand more. Adults, don't lose your zest for life. Asking questions means learning answers which means growing your knowledge. A child's mind is like a sponge. Learn from them.

Love wholeheartedly - Love is in the air! Kids love you. They love regardless of ethnicity, religion, & social status. They love their favorite show, their doll, their coloring book, their teacher. They are obsessed with everything & aren't afraid to show it. Adults can take note. Be expressive & show your love. Love life as it comes.
Be honest - Kids are honest, sometimes brutally honest. They don't care what people think. They will point out your big pimple or comment on your messy hair. As adults, it helps to have a filter but overall, honesty is the best policy. Tell that person they have spinach stuck in their teeth. Tell your boyfriend what you want for your birthday instead of making him guess. Tell your friend you're feeling too lazy to go out instead of coming up with an elaborate lie.
Be thankful - Ever done something & hated it? Yeah, we all have. But don't let that attitude overrule thankfulness. Kids are content to play with their friends & blow bubbles. Adults sometimes grow to be cynical & unhappy with their daily lives. Change that mindset immediately!

Wear what you want - We often see children wearing crazy mish mashes of an outfit. Yeah, that's because they aren't scared to dress however they please. Rainbow shirt with jean shorts & a pink sweater & purple shoes? Okay! As we age, we tend to conform to society's ideas. Don't succumb to the pressure. Wear whatever you feel like.
Have fun - Let loose, be silly, & enjoy the day as it is. Kiddos are the first ones on the slide & the last ones to leave. Adults lead stressful lives what with work, family, school, rent, bills, & all. Release some of that stress & just have a bit of fun. Make a work of art in a coloring book; join the mission of building a pillow fort. Let go of some the stress that's piling up.
We can't act like children forever, but we can certainly take some notes on how they live. Give yourself a break & ask yourself "what would a child do?" Which of these do you most think adults could learn from? What other things can kids teach us? Leave a comment! :]

Yes, yes, YES. I love the energy children carry and the joy and unadulterated confidence they exude; it's exciting and so, so inspiring! My mum have children over twice a week for music lessons, and they are THE most exhausting bunch of kids ever, but the questions they ask, the energy they carry, everything, are so fun!
ReplyDeleteI think the greatest thing we can take from children is their fearlessness. Rarely do I ever see a child shying away from attention, from wanting to know more, from TRYING to know more, and I love that.
What a great post, Carmen!

You're so right May. Kids truly are fearless! That's why they're always getting cuts, bruises, & broken bones! :]
DeleteChildren are carefree and so innocent.
ReplyDeleteI love how we should learn from them.
They give inspiration to adults to take life so light and happy.

I love their innocence; a child would never use you for their benefit!
DeleteLove this! We can learn a lot from children, or from our former more care-free child selves!
ReplyDeleteLove this post!!! You are so right!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right. I believe if adults learnt how to see the world from a child's eye, the whole world would be different. I believe kids can teach us to be more fearless. Sometimes adults are too afraid to fail, to look stupid, to go out of their comfort zone, etc, while kids are just curious about new things, take everything easier and generally have more fun. Nice post, Carmen! :)

So so true!
DeleteI love this post. I awlays say I'm horrible at being a grown up and I hate doing adult things haha. I love how much children enjoy life and are so inocent. I'd love to sometimes see life as a child more often.

I didn't know that! Yay for being a mommy! :]
DeleteI never trust people who kids don't trust; they sense that extra something about a person, which is fascinating. I do agree with these, above!

OMG so on point. If a child or animal doesn't like someone, that's alarming!

I really like the second one on this list. Children are so great at loving people unconditionally. If adults could love like children, the world would be so much better off.

I'm still in the middle of growing into adult and being a kid and almost all of those is what I do right now. Seems like when you're growing up you lose these, especially being thankful and being honest. Though I always remind myself to be thankful and honest because it is more respectful and those are the traits adults often forget but I want to keep.

DeleteI think the on thing that I have always taken with me is to be present. Just explore and open your eyes to everything around you, appreciate it and enjoy it.

This article was so on point! I agree with all the points you made, especially the one about love, as for kids it is a very simple thing, us adults, complicate everything!

I believe if adults could love like children do the world would definitely be a better place :-)

Children can be awesome role models. :]
DeleteHI Carmen,
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Yeah, I believe we can definitely learn a thing or two from our kids. I have to agree with you on brutally honest, my sons Ryan and Aidan are one good example. Aidan would tell me, "No offense mama, but your fried rice in the morning tastes a little blend" (my eyes rolling), and Ryan would humor me with his jokes and make a sarcastic remark sounds less obvious! haha
But they are growing up fast and no longer be consider kids very soon! I wish I could stop time but I can't. They will gradually lose their innocence and go into the realistic world of adulthood.
I think all the 6 things are TOTALLY awesome and crucial. Good piece of advise there.
Thanks for dropping by to LUMINNEJ and say hi, hope to see you again *_^

YUP! Definitely think we need to stop caring what people think and just start asking questions. Great post!
ReplyDeletexo, endlesspostcards.com
If we only had the courage to ask the questions we'd likely learn a lot more.
DeleteWhat a great post! Way too often, adults are obsessed with the things children can learn from the older ones and forget that it surely can be the other way around, too - as this list shows, both teenagers and adults can learn A LOT from the younger ones!
ReplyDeleteI think many kids get easily excited over small things (a pretty butterfly, a new color crayon, a piece of candy, etc.) that adults often take for granted. Everyone could learn a bit from that!

you are definitely right people are quick to tell children what they should be learning but never stop to think that they could learn a thing or two from the kids themselves :-)
DeleteI love this post! I appreciated so much more when I was a kid!

I love this post. We can all learn so much from kids. They are so energetic, they question everything and speak their mind. They can be a handful, but our world would be soooo sad and gray without them in our lives...that's for sure!

ReplyDeleteYou are ABSOLUTELY correct! We need to remember more often :)
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I especially love "wear what you want"...we do all need to take a cue from children and express ourselves!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is 5 and has recently been picking out her own clothes to wear. I love it!!! And absolutely agree with number 1, we should ask more questions!
