Don't you love it when an outfit makes you feel confident, powerful, & beautiful? It's brilliant that a mixture of fabrics can alter your mood in such a positive way. That's how this look makes me feel. Like a badass. Like I can accomplish anything I put my mind to, crushing the competition. I'm sure there's some type of psychology behind the phenomenon.
I recently purchased a plethora of items online from Rue 21 & Urban Outfitters & literally couldn't wait to wear them. Seriously. Once I received my Rue 21 package, I basically got dolled up to go buy groceries because I was so psyched. "Oh yes I will buy these veggie chips," I said as I clomped around in my 3 inch boots. However, it's difficult purchasing items online because you never know if they're going fit or not. Some looked utterly fabulous whilst others made me look like Thanksgiving dinner. Stuffed. But what are you gonna do?
Anyhoo, I took a little trip to North Park with my boyfriend. North Park is a cool, trendy neighborhood in San Diego. They have a lot of funky places over there -- from gourmet ice cream to a music venue that functions as a church on Sundays. I had some brewery reviews to do so we made a day out of it. After getting a flight of tasters we stopped by to grab a bite to eat & found this gated area. Turned out it was the perfect location to snap some outfit photos.
That's where the problem lies. I still get incredibly anxious while taking outfit photos in public. Like a bitter, frigid, icy winter, I freeze up. I'm no model. Anytime someone passes by I get really self-conscious, making my photos look extraordinarily awkward. The look of discomfort can be read so easily on my face. I think I need to create some sort of persona & just roll with it, pretending to be that confident, powerful, & beautiful person the outfit makes me feel like I am. But it's a work in progress.
I received these Ralph Lauren sunglasses from the Sunglasses Shop* to style however I wanted. I love the tortoise shell design & maybe you will too because they were kind enough to do a giveaway for my readers! Are you excited? I know I am. Now we can wear matching sunglasses. Oh yeah!

Perhaps with these fierce boots & righteous sunglasses I can feel as powerful as I wish to be. It's all in my head & it's time to change how I take photos. I've watched enough America's Next Top Model by now to get the gist of modeling. Thanks Tyra! If anything, at least I know how to smile with my eyes.
Do you get self-conscious when taking outfit photos? Have you ever watched America's Next Top Model? What do you think of this outfit? :]
This outfit is really cool!

Woo hoo I'm a badass~ :]
DeleteWhat a unique outfit! I always put on all my new clothes when they arrive - it turns my room into a mess while I run around trying out new combinations. Taking pictures in public can be awkward, but I tend to do it with friends, so it's not as bad!

It's so fun to wear your new clothes immediately. I don't know why. :]

DeleteFeel like a badass? You LOOk like a badass, Carmen. I LOVE this look and would wear this out any day. I'm in love with your shoes and, ugh, that sheer cover up is insane. I've taken photos in public a lot of times but I still get extremely self conscious, and like you, freeze up whenever someone passes by. Whatever the case, I feel much more comfortable when I'm in badass boots and killer sunnies. Smize on, girl!

Haha thanks May! Sometimes I just pretend I'm famous & my boyfriend is the paparazzi. It makes me feel slightly better. Smize on! :]

Thanks so much Anna. :]
DeleteWhat a cool outfit! I love the sheer long blouse over the shorts. It really gives the illusion of a dress!
ReplyDeletehttps://forsevenseasons.wordpress.com
That's a cool observation. It is kind of like a see-through dress. :]
DeleteI love the way you styled that sheer black top and your boots are killer! I have yet to take outfit pictures in public, but I would imagine I'd feel the same discomfort and awkwardness. But no worries girl, I don't see any awkwardness in these photos! You look beautiful. Keep it up :)
ReplyDeleteAmy | http://amypham.me
Photos are definitely nerve-racking but the more you do it the less odd it gets. :]
DeleteLove the outfit. How tall are you? The sheer piece looks awesome on you...I'm afraid I'd look weird in it since I'm short. Also...I take my own photos so setting up the tripod in public and posing is EXTRA awkward for me. :)
ReplyDeletewww.streetmadonna.com
I'm 5'7". That's true a tripod in public would be a little weird; I understand. :]
DeleteI love how you put everything together- the boots and the sheer top over the tank top!
ReplyDeleteMacarons and Mischief
Your boots are so cool /I like it ♥
ReplyDeleteSilentium
Carmen you look incredible!!! Meanwhile I'm sitting at home in my pineapple pjs hahaha I love it! Also really love what you're standing in front of, that iron gate/door! I'm studying interior design so I'm like YES! Em xx

You look gorgeous!! Love this outfit on you! Wonderful job at choosing colors and layering your pieces.

I do like the way you think about yourself and your blogging. It is noticeable you are a conscious writer.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile your outfits are original and attractive, and you style them well. So no need to doubt yourself, but it is nice to hear your musing about it, which makes your writing human and funny. Keep entertaining us!
