Art of the Streets: Canadian Edition

Wednesday, April 25, 2012

* Street art is awesome. Art is on walls, the back of signs, the ground. It's all public, like an enormous free museum. I love the things that you have to keep an eye out for. Someone took the time out of their day to make it and display it anonymously. They didn't create this stuff for profit. They did it for the thrill, the joy.

I'd like to think I live my life in a similar fashion.

I found these gems on my trip to Canada in the summer of 2011. Some are stickers, some are stencils, some are drawn by hand, but all are rad. Well, they're cool to me at least. I tend to find art when I go out, so you'll definitely be seeing more.  Kick back and take a look. Enjoy the art of the streets.

It's Carmen the Intern: Part III

Friday, April 13, 2012

* It's Carmen is many things, but now It's Carmen is an intern. On Feb. 1, I began my first official day as a business reporter for Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. To put it briefly, my job is to create, write, report and edit content.

I can't believe it's been nearly another month at my internship. This week I spent my birthday in the office,  working on my second business athlete profile article. You can check out my first profile about one Mihaylo student who plays lacrosse for Cal State Fullerton. It's titled More Than Just a Goal: Balancing Business and Lacrosse and was featured on the the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics main website.

I'm presently researching for an upcoming article on the best study tips to ace finals. It's going to be epic and extremely beneficial. I'm legitimately researching, like looking through academic journals and databases to establish the most effective ways to study.

It's been a bit slow these last couple weeks, but I can't complain. I'm still doing my thing and striving to do my best. The things I learn in my feature article writing class correlate perfectly with my internship. In class we go over interview tips and that same day I interview three different people for articles. It's a good life. My only hope is that one day I can get paid to do this.

Where the magic happens.

I can't believe life goes by so fast.
Each day is shorter than the last.
The evening air turns into the brisk morning breeze
then morphs into the warm noon wind through the trees.
Flowers bud, bloom and blossom in the spring.
Then there's always that summer fling.
The leaves change color and begin to fall
And after that winter concludes it all.
Technically, April 10th I turn 22
but to me, today is nothing new.
The sun is shining and my mood is sweet.
To be alive and well is the ultimate treat.
Thank you for your well wishes and support.
But it's super nice out, so I must cut this short.
