I Went on a Lady Date & Here's What Happened

Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Sooo I met a girl at the pub last night.

I was sitting around the fire pit with my girlfriend when two women come up & ask if they can sit near us.

"Of course," we say.

The four of us begin talking but couldn't hear each other over the noise of the pub: the music, people talking, general hubbub. So we paired off into new duos. My friend started talking to one girl & I start talking to another one.

We started asking rapid-fire questions to get to know each other. How old are you? Are you in a relationship? What are your goals in life? What are your career goals?

I told her my story — one which you probably know pretty well by now — how I quit my job in June 2017 to pursue something bigger, better, scarier than life at a corporate desk job. I told her about entrepreneurship, building my coaching clientele, growing out of my comfort zone, & just winging it every single day of life.

She said she was three, almost 4 years younger than me. She told me she was graduating from university in a couple months with a degree in marketing. She told me she was absolutely fascinated with my life & career. Marketing is her passion.

We discussed marketing & her dog’s Instagram & how she'd just deleted THAT DAY & then restarted it. She said I was really cool & basically asked me out on a girl date. She asked if I wanted to hang out sometime. I said "hell yeah!."

She asked me if I was free the next day & I said I was relatively open, that’s the perks of working for yourself & planning your own schedule. I didn't have any clients or sessions that particular day so I could work around it.

She told me she had some free passes to the San Diego Safari Park, a place I hadn't been since I was laid off from there 4 years ago, but that's a story for another day. Sometimes women meet each other & say "we should hang out" but it never happens.

She started asking "When are you free? What are you wearing? Where should I pick you up?" soooo I knew it was real. We exchanged numbers & then did exactly what we said we were going to do. We met up, spend the day together, got brunch, chatted, laughed, & had a good time.

It was very much like a first date where you're getting to know EVERYTHING about a person: their likes, dislikes, what movies they're into, how they laugh. It's not always easy for women to make friends & I wish it was like this all the time.

So I'm writing this because I want to say: Yay for friends & GIRL POWER & just meeting someone cool & saying “wanna chill??” Can we all do this more often? :]

Recommitting to Blogging & Entrepreneurial Goals When You Fall Behind

Friday, March 16, 2018

This post is sponsored by Bioré but the content & opinions expressed here are mine.

I have a confession. I went a bit downhill on my 2018 goals & resolutions. At the start of January, I felt rejuvenated & ready to get the new year going. By the time March began, I realized I'd gotten out of my groove. Something was off. So I'm here & ready to recommit to my 2018 goals as a blogger, digital nomad, & entrepreneur.

Live Now. Upload Later.

My entire 2018 blogging & entrepreneurial strategy is based on my motto: Live Now. Upload Later. The main idea is to focus on writing again, focus on blogging to blog & blogging for the sheer joy of it. Focus on life & living, not uploading content. So I vow to recommit myself my blog, my journey, my health.

Live now. Document. Write. Upload it later. I could go on & on about this topic, but I'll spare you. You can read all about my strategy in this blog post. After spending a longggg day exploring Venice Beach on Wednesday (the Boardwalk, Muscle Beach, the Venice Canals, & 15,000 steps), I felt exhausted.

Small Self-Care Moments Matter

Yesterday I slept in, did a face mask, watched some nature documentaries, tidied my blogging workspace, & did those little things I never make time for. If those larger self-care moments (like heading to the spa for a customized anti-aging facial or a deep tissue massage) often seem out of reach, expensive, or inconvenient, take advantage of those small self-care moments. It felt good to give myself & my space some attention.

I started using Bioré pore strips way back when I was about 14 years old. It always fascinated me to see the gunk come out. TMI but SO TRUE! The Bioré Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips work like a magnet to lift out grime, oil, & blackheads, which can help minimize the appearance of your pores. It's oddly satisfying.

Even though the Bioré pore strips have been in my life for 10+ years, the Bioré Self Heating One Minute Mask is brand new to me. I used it for the first time yesterday & was ooooh-ing & aaaah-ing the whole time. The warming sensation is unlike anything I've ever tried. The scent is pleasantly refreshing & my face felt as soft as a baby's bum afterward.

The best part is that you can buy both the Bioré Deep Cleansing Charcoal Pore Strips & Bioré Self Heating One Minute Mask from Target or Amazon. Yessss. Both these products come in individual use packages which makes it ideal for the consistently traveling digital nomad laptop lifestyle.

Even though being a blogger & entrepreneur means traveling half of the time, my goal for 2018 is still to live life with intention. I want to live my life — both fully & with purpose — Each.&.Every.Day. There's absolutely no time to delay when it comes to life. We aren't granted tomorrow.

How do you recommit to your goals when you fall behind? :]

Read This If You're on the Verge of Giving Up

Monday, March 05, 2018

Hello my friend,

It sounds like you're on the verge of giving up on that thing you've been working toward. That's a totally normal feeling. It's hard out there, been there myself. So, you're on the verge of giving up but you haven't quit quite yet. I just wanted to say...

Don't forget that every single minuscule effort & thought that you put in matters. It matters in life, it matters for your dreams, it matters for your work, it matters in your relationships. Those big moments matter, but so do those teeny tiny ones!

The current struggle is that you can't see it. Since you can't see the changes, improvements, benefits, it feels like nothing is happening. Know that sometimes you have to BELIEVE. It's there. It's happening. Things are HAPPENING.

Believe in yourself. Believe in the process. Just believe.

I know that seems like a near impossible task.

But keep on keeping on.

Remember your goal.

Remember that success is a series of small wins.

Remember to do something each & every day, even if it's super small. After a year of daily effort, 365 tiny things turns into something huge.

Sometimes you have to do something scary or out of your comfort zone.

Ready for some real talk? I feel the saaaaame way. Sometimes I genuinely have no clue what to do next, which step to take, if it'll work. But that's all a part of the process. We're ALL winging life. We're ALL the oldest we've ever been.

I got out of my comfort zone just a few days ago at the Vans Warped Tour 2018 press kick off event. It's always a bit nerve-wracking for me to go to events. I have to hype myself & pump myself up just to step out the door. But it gets easier every time I do! I ended up having a blast eating rainbow sprinkle & Oreo ice cream, scoping out the Vans headquarters, & doing something new.

When I feel on the verge of giving up, I remember to breathe in & out. I remember that everything takes time & effort. I remember to focus on things that bring me joy, happiness, knowledge, love, friendship. I remember to believe. I remember that baby steps count, even if it's just a few steps out the door. It counts!

What are your goals for 2018? What do you think of comfort zones? What are you struggling with right now? Leave a comment & join the discussion.
